This is my review of Adobe Audition 3. For any producers or engineers out there, this is a must have mixing/mastering software for your studio. Pro Tools is still the industry standard as far as recording, but add Audition to the lineup and you’re good to go. I use AA3 strictly for mixing instruments and editing vocals. In my opinion, it kills Pro Tools in that area. It also has a wide range of mastering tools and effects. Steinberg’s Nuendo is going head to head with Audition, but it’s pricey, and if you lose that dongle you’re SOL.(I know personally) AA3 is recession friendlier at 349 bucks. If you’re just putting out a mixtape then keep that paper in your pocket. You only need this if you’re working on a album and need a flawless mix. I’d say the best feature Audition has is Noise Reduction. It can clean your sound up, get rid of any background noise, hiss etc., and liven up your instruments. It’s good at recording vocals, but if you plan on taking that session to a big studio you can forget it. All they know is Pro Tools, but a few are switching over to Sonar.(PT’s enemy) Audition’s only drawback is it’s only available for the PC, so I have to go back and forth from the Mac. Not too many people know how much it can do, that’s why you don’t hear about it much. AA3 is the underdog, but I root for it.
