New 100

The newly designed 100 dollar bill will go into circulation on February 11th, 2010. The note adds several unique security features to help prevent counterfeiters from duplicating the bill. Over 10 years of research and testing went into designing the new 100 dollar bill.

Security Features

Some of the enhanced security features added to the new 100 include a embedded security thread when the bill is held to light. A pattern of the letters USA and the number 100 are shown on both sides. The thread turns a pinkish color with UV light.
 
Another feature is a 3D security ribbon which is woven into the front of the note. The blue ribbon displays bells that turn to the number 100 when the note is tilted at a certain angle. On the back of the bill a gold 100 is added to make the denomination easier to identify.

Other security features include a hologram bell in the inkwell on bill next to the portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The bell changes from copper to dark green when the currency is tilted. Phrases of freedom and the quill from the Declaration of Independence can also be found on the front of the note.
